Hobbies
We all need hobbies, for our health and for our sanity. A while back, I listened to a leadership podcast that talked about hobbies. The person stated that hobbies are always things that cost money. Things that make money are jobs.
I decided they were right. Many of the things I considered to be hobbies were either jobs, or just things I did to relax (I recognize that maybe some of them are hobbies). I started to think about something that really fit this definition of hobby, not that I can or am looking to spend money.
Then it hit me, my love for bourbon, particularly good bourbon could become more of a hobby for me. The fun of the hunt for hard to fine, rare, unique or allocated bourbon is actually a great distraction that gives me joy. It’s also not a waste as I know I will consume and share it as I go as well. So, now when people ask about my hobbies, one of the first things I talk about is collecting and chasing hard to find, unique and rare bourbon.
What are your hobbies?
