August

One of the great joys of my life is being a life-long learner. You cannot be a leader without being a life-long learner. I would argue that discipleship also includes life-long learning. One of the areas of emphasis for learning for me is growing in self-knowledge. Again, self-knowledge is something that is essential for leadership and discipleship. As I get older, I come to know myself more, not less.

I used to believe that I was a person who needed routine and schedule. While it is true that I enjoy routine and I love schedule, I do not require it. Sure, most would say that I am a fantastic time manager, but liking to manage time having to manage time are two different things.

What I am learning is that I need to either be mostly in schedule and routine or mostly out of routine and schedule. The big challenge for me is when I am in neither or floating equally between both. That is basically how I feel every single August. I have come to learn that August, for its inconsistent nature is my least favorite month. The transition back to school and other factors make it a complicated month and I am always glad to get through Labor Day.

Just one more thing to notice and learn about myself so I can be the best version of me possible.
